Common questions
- Are my videos uploaded anywhere?
- No. Everything — trimming, compression, audio extraction, and subtitle recognition — runs on your iPhone. There is no account and no server.
- Where are my exported files?
- In My Files inside the app. Videos can also be saved to Photos; audio and subtitle files can be saved to the Files app or shared. Deleting the app deletes the files kept inside it, so save anything you want to keep.
- What does the free version include?
- Trim, compress, extract audio, and extract subtitles as TXT, for clips up to 60 seconds. Trim a longer video to 60 seconds and it can be exported for free. Pro removes the length limit and adds SRT/VTT subtitles, canvas ratios, and batch processing.
- Subtitles say my language isn't available.
- Subtitles use your iPhone's on-device dictation, so only languages your device can recognise offline are offered. Turn on Dictation in Settings → General → Keyboard, and make sure the language is added under Keyboards. Clipsmith never sends audio to a server to work around this.
- The subtitles have mistakes.
- Speech recognition is never perfect, especially with music, background noise, or several people talking at once. Review the text before exporting; TXT, SRT, and VTT files can all be edited afterwards.
- I paid but the app still shows the free limits.
- Open Go Pro and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account used for the purchase.
- How do I cancel a subscription or free trial?
- Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by this app: open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or current period ends to avoid the next charge.
- Can Clipsmith download videos from TikTok, YouTube, or Instagram?
- No, and it won't. Clipsmith only works with videos already on your device.
